Just click learn more on whichever ipod you are interested in. number of songs depends on size of hard drive.

A song takes up roughly 4MB of space. So 200x 4 = 800MB of space or 0.8GB. So I would go for a 2GB model which should hold 400-500 songs I would imagine. Best to buy a slightly more capacious player/ipod than what you think you need.

The 2GB model Ipod nanos in silver seem popular and you can get it for about 75quid if you use the right combination of a cashback website like quidco and voucher codes.

Look out for the following ....

Boots ..... 10% off codes available + triple points + 6% cashback quid co (i think!)

Currys/dixons/PCWorld ... Currys have 10% codes floating around

John Lewis .... were doing 15 quid of 75quid spend combined with 5% cashback.

The problem at the moment may be stock levels as the xmas rush seems to of started.

John Lewis were out of stock last time I looked.

Also another note on colour availability as the colour you want may not be available in the 2GB range.

There are cheaper non-ipod players out there .. seek advice b4 you buy. Also if u think your hubby will "probably" want to buy some accessories for his player then stick with ipod.

  • Don't whatever you do try to save money by getting one from ebay. Although I'm sure there are many ipods that are fantastic from honest sellers, I bought one from a chap who said it was working, it turned out it wasn't . I then spent about 2 months trying to get my money back whilst the seller made up lies about me and how long I had had the ipod. I now just whistle instead of listening to music. Great moneysaver!!

  • If you're just wanting one to hold about 200 tracks, with no fancy features, then the iPod Shuffle is for you (or should I say your Husband)!

i've got my hubbie the old style i pod shuffle, it holds 120 songs, got it from play.com for £39.99 and the postage is FREE
  • My advice: don't buy an Ipod - you'll be paying more, for less and find yourself locked in to Apple software to use it.

Buy another model of mp3 player instead. Better sound quality, better features, no software lock-in, better all round.

Creative do an excellent range of players and they are a company based in audio (unlike Apple).

    There's lots more out there.

    Here's just an example:

The first part is true as you're certainly paying for the name. However, there are plenty of alternatives to itunes which support all of the ipods; just do a Google.

I'd recommend a 1gb Sandisk Sansa M240 for £25; C240 for £60 or £72ish for a 2gb E250 if you want something a bit "more" - both prices are from Amazon and you get 2.5% (pre VAT IIRR) cashback if you go through rpoints.

EDIT: C240 seems to have just gone out of stock; maybe some more will come in before last shipping dates go though.
