How much to fit a kitchen ?

My s.i.l and daughter have bought kitchen units and have had one quote to fit them. The guy said £850 for 2 days work.
B&Q quoted a whole lot more but we still think 1 guy -2 days-£850 seems a bit steep ,if it took longer ok but over £400 a day ?
Can anyone put us straight, they are going to get other quotes but your experience would be useful .
Thanks

Your not really paying him for his time. Your paying him for his skills in being able to fit a kitchen in 2 days. There will also be costs for him like plumbing and probably some electrics but if you are unhappy with the quote maybe its a good idea to get a couple more quotes0

Also is he offering a guarantee on his workmanship? I imagine he is so for that £850 you also have piece of mind0

What did b&Q quote ?? price of kitchen and double it ??
as for paying for skill mmmmmmmmmmmmm is that how to build flat-pack and use a spirit level...
or mitre the joints on worktop
in answer too the op ...you could put in yourself then get the fitter/joiner to put the worktops in and sink etc maybe cheaper...(i never mitre worktops, have always got someone in)0 -
Thanks Steve I agree skills and guarantee, we just don't know until they get other estimates.S.IL. expects he may have to get plumber and electrician on top.Do you think 2 days is a bit quick then ? I know thats a bit like how long is a piece of string but its a fairly big kitchen ( but won't be fully fitted) completely clear newly plastered etc.No integral units. When we had ours done two fab guys took over a week, they did a wonderful job but sadly aren't available anymoreSteve_the_fitter wrote: »Your not really paying him for his time. Im not saying its rocket science fitting a kitchen when you know how but building flat pack units and using a spirit level doesnt get you to far in fitting a kitchen properly. Ive done plenty of worktops for people who fitted their own units and often have to re level the units as they are no where near level.
I could go into detail about what skills are needed to fit a kitchen but ive been fitting a kitchen all day and canny be ar sedWhat did b&Q quote ?? price of kitchen and double it ??

It is a case of how long is a piece of string but if there is electrical work, plumbing work things like cornice pelmet, fillers, panels, worktop joints he will be doing long days to get it done in 2 days. Saying this if as you say its quite a large kitchen £850 sounds like a good price .Thanks Steve I agree skills and guarantee, we just don't know until they get other estimates.S.IL. expects he may have to get plumber and electrician on top.Do you think 2 days is a bit quick then ? Just my opinion but even if he is doing long days then 2 days work for £850-00 is over priced unless theres a fair bit of materials he's supplying for electrics/gas or he's budgeted for an electrician/plumber.If it takes him 3-4 days then the quotes cheap.
Ive made and fitted many kitchens in my time including ones from the sheds and Ive never done a complete kitchen in 2 days.....:D0 -
if the fit quality is the same you would prefer to be without a kitchen for 4 days rather than 2. Doesnt make sense as there would be the same amount of work involvedleveller2911 wrote: »Just my opinion but even if he is doing long days then 2 days work for £850-00 is over priced unless theres a fair bit of materials he's supplying for electrics/gas or he's budgeted for an electrician/plumber.If it takes him 3-4 days then the quotes cheap.

Remember he is giving you a fixed price. If the job ends up taking him a week, he will still only be entitled to £850. You could try and ask him for a day rate and see how much it ends up costing you!Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0
