Energy Contract advice please
I am on Websaver 7(Dual Fuel) which is due to finish on the 2 July 2011. I received an Email from British Gas recommending that I move to Websaver 12. I Emailed them this morning(8 June) and agreed to the switch.
Shortly afterwards I read what Martin had to say about fixing energy prices and I reread the BG Email & discovered that I am not being offered a fixed price which I have had in the past over many years. It appears that Websaver 12 gives the flexibility & advantage to British Gas.
My Question is very simple-Have I entered into a Contract with British Gas? Do I have a cooling down period where I can withdraw from the new Websaver 12 contract?

Ummm... Websaver 7 wasn't a fixed price deal either. None of the Websaver tariffs were. As far as I'm aware there hasn't been any major change in the terms and conditions from one to another. They all give you a guaranteed minimum discount over the standard tariff, in return for you agreeing to online account management, paying by Direct Debit and a fixed cancellation fee.
If you're thinking that you're going to get a fixed rate tariff at any sort of discount from the standard rate then I think you're going to be searching for a long, long time though. Most of them are at a significant premium over the standard prices.
I also don't *think* there is a cool off period on it if you do decide to cancel, but I don't know too much about it so I could be wrong. The easiest way to check would be to just call in and ask.I am an employee of British Gas, however the views expressed on this post are mine and do not necessarily reflect the views of Centrica, its subsidiaries or affiliated companies.0 -
It should be an instant switch. I would phone them right now and ask if you can cancel.
But why would you want to switch to WS12 anyway before your current tariff expires-WS12 is much more expensive than WS7.
You should do you own comp site research before accepting a supplier's offer. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Hi Macman,
Many thanks for your Input.
Its best I clarify my postion. At present I am on Websaver 7 but this Tariff closes on the 2 July 2011. When the Tariff closes I will revert to the BG standard Tariff unless I decide to opt for another more favourable Tariff.
The best BG Dual Fuel Tariff(post 2July 2011) is Websaver 12 and I had just opted for this when I opened the latest Email @Moneysavingexpert and read that Martin (Lewis) was advising people to opt for a Fixed Tariff.
Thus my question,'Do I have a cooling down period where I can withdraw from the new Websaver 12 contract?'
Another way to look at this is -Did my contract start when I Emailed British Gas (9June) or does it start on the 2 July 2011?
Any help most appreciated.

It will start from today but if you have changed your mind and want another give them a call and say you made a mistake. They might then let you go on a fixed price if that is what you want.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0

The only way you'll find out is by contacting them now. They may already have processed the switch. No free lunch, and no free laptop
