I have asked Fred.Ed and Vido to send me these details but so far I have had no response.
Can anyone else recommend a good installer for gas?

    Thanks

    Ernie

    Hi,

I am considering switching from oil to gas but I'm wondering is the investment worth it if I don't plan to be in my house for too much longer? I live in a 2 bedroom terrace house in East Belfast and at the minute I pay £60 per month on a payment plan to Maxol Direct for my oil which I then get topped up twice a year.

Does anyone have a rough figure of how much I might expect to pay per month for gas? It's just myself and my partner living in the house and we wouldn't be that bothered about putting the heating on all the time.

I would say I will probably stay here for another couple of years then I might sell or rent my house out. Do you think that having gas heating adds to the value of your house at all? With the oil tank taken away I would also plan on having a big patio in the back yard which I suppose might add some value too?! My partner thinks its a waste of money if I'm not planning on living here for a long time but would like to know everyones thoughts.

    Thanks

I use gas for water and heating and was paying £49 a month to Phoenix - just had a letter from them reducing this to £44 due to price reduction. If Firmus are 10% cheaper that would make it £40 and I don't imagine you would use any more gas in your house so looks like you could be saving £20 a month.

Thanks for your response. Funny enough, Pheonix phoned me yesterday to say that at the minute they are doing free installations in my area and would fix me up to the gas network and install a box at the front of the house should I ever want it in the future.

Does this seem like a good deal or is there a catch? I still can't afford to get the inside stuff done but would it be good to have it as an option for the future?

From memory, Phoenix had to approve the installer and there was a limited time frame to get the work done on the house.
  • Did anyone notice when they made the switch, their toilet systern fills up 10x faster? lol

Believe it or not, yes! I'm guessing the water pressure from mains rather than from the tank feed makes a heck of a difference.

What I noticed more is just how muc more space I have for storing stuff. I never knew the attic was so big and as for the hot press! It was worth the conversion just for the extra storage :D
