Blow drying hair!! ???

Have just started to go to hairdressers after many years of having wet cuts because it's been cheaper, but now kids have grown up a bit, Iv'e started to treat myself......
BUT.... they have cut hair nice enough and have had nice colour before today, but when it comes to blow drying it, it seems they have lost the knack! I was asked if I wanted it blow dried which I said yes and just use straightner's on the ends and fringe (as I do at home), but the girl was obviously struggling with my thick shoulder length hair, I think she just gave up and had to straighten it all over - I hate that poker straight look, but felt so sorry for her.
I don't think they are taught to do a proper blow dry anymore!!!
Has anyone else had this problem???

I've just had my hair cut at the local college. The woman that cut my hair has been working at Rush for 8 years but is attending college to gain a Level 3 (?) qualification as she wishes to teach hairdressing and needs to obtain this. Apparently Rush don't train their staff to Level 3.
The cut and blowdry was brilliant, it was more thorough and more professional than when I have paid full price.
And it only cost £12 (I gave £15 as I can afford to tip at that price!). Well happy!!0 -

My grandaughter is college in her 2nd year of hairdressing and blow-drying is definately one of the modules they have to pass.. so its still taught and the girls practice on each other and have clients coming into the college all the time.. you just ring your local college for an appointment.. they do loads of other things too, cuts colours, hi and lolights sets perms etc etc, anything really#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Yes, they did a skin test for colour as well while I was there so if my home henna experiment does not work I'll go back.
The only drawback is that they do take a long time, so be prepared, I was there for two hours but it was definitely worth it.

I wish I could just have a cut and straighten!

I pay £38 for a cut and blow dry at my salon and i'm never happy with the blow dry. It's always too full for me and a bit old fashioned....which is weird as my hairdresser is in her early 20's and all I have is a "pob". I do have a natural kink, but I wear it poker straight every day....and it's not too hard to do.
I just feel bad saying anything....well I did last night to be fair as she wasn't going to straighten it at all and there was no way I was walking out of that hairdresser with poofy hair!!
I don't understand why the blow dry has to be so full....0 -
Not everyone suits flat, straight hair..me included! I need volume or I look like the top of my head had disappeared :-( Whenever I go to a new stylist, I always explain my hair is really strong and takes a lot of work to blow dry and keep the volume. They never seem to believe me and think a few limp twirls with a cylinder brush will do the trick, and I have flat, floppy hair an hour later!
I've decided to give my local college a try next week for a cut & finish. Need to save at the moment, so hoping it turns out well and I can make it a regular thing. From Starrystarrynight to Starrystarrynight1 and now I'm back...don't have a clue how!0 -

It seems to depend on the hairdresser.
Two different hairdressers from different branches of Supercuts have told me that it's "impossible" to blowdry my hair because it is "too thick" - which is weird, because both I and my usual hairdresser manage just fine. With hindsight I shouldn't have given Supercuts a second chance, but I didn't think they'd say such an obviously stupid thing twice.0 -

I totally agree with you, it seems like we have very similar hair, and If I can blow dry it, surely a trained hairdresser can do it, I have noticed that they seem to favour the round type brush, and I have said that a denman brush or a paddle brush works best on my hair - and they just look at me with a blank expression!!!!!! Got a feeling I might just have to stick to wet cuts!0
