maternity allowance

Sorry

I've tried the benefits board but got no joy. I'm due to put a claim in for maternity allowance but at the moment my partner claims jsa and as me down as working 16 hrs.

They deduct money accordingley.

Does any1 know what effect my claim for maternity allowance will have on his jsa claim.

Also there is a section on the MA form to claim for a partner ????????

I don't think JSA (contrib.) is affected by your claim for MA, but if the claim is for JSA (income based) then it will be affected as you'll have some other income (the MA). It probably also depends on how much MA you get.

I can only tell you what we could claim two years ago. We were both on a JSA(I) claim, but I was switched over to MA at 11 weeks before birth. I was entitled to the maximum MA payment, which put our household income over the threshold for any JSA in my partner's name. His award went down to zero, and he signed off as he wasn't getting any money. I could then claim an extra "dependents allowance" that increased the MA - but I believe that dependents allowance has now ended.

ETA. I always found this site (the DWP) most informative about MA rules. It explains there that JSA is reduced "by the amount of the MA". In my case, that reduced the JSA to zero.
