REALLY poor service from Bosch and Currys- What to do? (long)

Back in March, we bought a Bosch WTA4007GB tumble drier.
It comes recommended by Which, I noticed it was in a thread below too. Up until now it's been great, but it's turned into a total nightmare.
First it went bang, literally bang with a flash of blue white light. OK, we call up Bosch. The engineer comes and says there's no fault. Insists its fine, after tests it with his fancy gear.
So we show him what happens when you press start. Bang. Flash. He looks puzzled. We reset the earth leakage trip, thinking he'll have a clue what to do having seen a case like this before. WRONG! He presses go again, another bang, another flash (Worse this time)
(You have to wonder how dangerous it might have got without the earth leakage trip. Doesn't bear thinking about someone getting zapped or the thing catching fire.)
After an hour or so, he decides it's the motor thats at fault. So orders a new motor, and goes on his way. Today he turns up (earlier than he was supposed to, after promising to be after 9) after THREE LONG HOURS, he says they sent him the wrong part. By this point, we've totally lost faith in
a)His ability to fix it
b)the safety of the appliance
After all, these were big bangs and flashes. You have to wonder what else could be damaged inside by them. Potentially, it's not safe and he couldnt tell us either way. He didn't even find the (huge) major fault till we showed him.
So, having got quite upset by this point, we ring Bosch. They tell us Currys will have to exchange it, they can only repair. Currys tell us only Bosch can authorise a swap.
Spoken to Trading standards who agree that its not unreasonable to want an exchange. Especially since the drier is obviously VERY faulty, but also the engineer is useless. I'm writing to Currys, under sale of goods act. Writing to Visa card about the fault under consumer credit act.
The end of the story is we're waiting on more parts. Currys and Bosch keep fobbing us off (Bosch put the phone down last time we rang)
I'm sure Currys arent being straight about not being able to take it back. There must be some way they can authorise it back and swap it, after all the contract is with them so it's their responsibility to get it sorted. I should have known it was hopeless when they said I needed to go back to Bosch 'because its a manufacturer guarantee'.
I want it exhanged ASAP. What else can I do?
If you made it this far, thanks for reading

sorry to hear about this, bosch will be the ones authorising though. bosch not the product it once was. suggest next time a local supplier with direct contacts with their bosch rep. you may pay more but being lost in the big boys systems is what tends to happen0

Hello jounetsu
I'll move your thread to 'The (Consumer) Vent' board, where it should get more views and responses.
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.
