I love reading and my dd knows I read nightly-got lots of books in the house.
I read to my dd probably 4-5 nights a week at bedtime but we do tend to read other things at home/out and about- road signs, shop names, leaflets, words on magazines etc so we are practising daily. Also she has weekly homework which always involves spelling/writing/reading. I think she has enough with what we do already and she is still very young- in her 1st year of full time school, just turned 5.

The teacher is now off till next Monday so Ive got to wait to speak with her. I just cant understand how she can say my daughter is struggling when she is moving through the books at a steady rate and suprises me all the time with her progress.

I have not had any reason for concern until the teacher made this comment, or I wouldve mentioned it far sooner than 5 weeks before the end of term!

If her teacher is concerned enough to mention it to you, then it is likely there is a good reason to be concerned. I don't say that to worry you, but because it's a concern that needs to be addressed and that is what your child's teacher will be keen to do. You mention your LO is moving through the books quickly, but is she progressing upwards through the band levels quickly, or simply reading lots of books at the same level? What else is she reading? How is her phonic knowledge (can she say and blend sounds together to work out new words?)

You really need to talk to the teacher to find out exactly what the concern is.

In the meantime, your child must read to you everyday and you must read to her as often as you can (although it sounds like you're doing this already). These are the things that have the greatest impact on creating successful readers. Expose her to the written word as much as you can - internet, comic books, books, library, signs out of the car window, shopping etc etc.

Let us know what her teacher has to say.

Oh yes, you didn't actually say what book band your child is reading at the moment? Can you give an example title?
