I am a singley, and could possibly just secure a last minute flight on the spur, but not have a hotel to coincide with said flight. Work is pretty slack at the moment, and if before the holiday season really starts could get a short break in soon.
Is there a walk in room rate as opposed to a package deal.
I suppose I could start frantically phoneing around but just thought I would ask , better look around some more, any tips saves getting square eyes,
Have been having password problems so thanks for now in advance.
Hi:
Despite what some people would have you think it is a complete fallacy that hotel accommodation HAS to be booked in advance and online guarantees you the best rates.
Especially as you are a single person.
Hotels by their nature cater for a transient trade and unless you're specifically looking for the facilities of a big, family-orientated hotel there's no reason to spend an entire holiday in one of them.
There are many other, smaller family-run hotels which can cater for you. Cash is king.In any language. And always, always, always be prepared to haggle.
In your situation I'd book the first night before you go and then have a look round when you get there. Check out prices.Talk to local Brits who own bars or restaurants - they will always know the best deals and steer you away from the grotty hotels.
Do you really need a hotel by the beach with a pool ? Stay a few streets away and just stroll in to use the pool if you need to. No-one is going to challenge you.
And if you don't like a hotel move on to another one.
Above all don't be conned by the travel trade who nanny people into buying packages - think independently.
And remember if it's sunny and you're single and having fun you're only going to need a bed and a shower for a few hours.0 -

Oh yea, after the hassle of getting to the airport, getting through security, flying, getting to your resort the other end, you`d really feel like traipsing round bars asking "brits" where to stay.
Anyone turning up at a hotel or family run small hotel is asking to be ripped-off.
They know you NEED somewhere to stay and and what if you don`t like their price, how many more are you going to go around with your baggage until the "price is right".
The guy just wants to just get there, get his shorts on and go and enjoy himself, not spend half his holiday looking for a hotel!
If you`re going to go online and find somewhere for one night (if you can find anywhere for one night) you might as well secure your accommodation for your entire stay.
All done from the comfort of your home before you go.
There are plenty of websites for booking hotels, hostals, etc. at competitive prices.
If you want to know what a hotel is like use Tripadvisor.
Even the booking sites have their own reviews from people that have stayed there.0 -

Perhaps you should take a little time to re-read my post - particularly the part where I suggested he should book into a hotel for the first night and then spend time having a wander about.
There are a great deal of excellent family-run hotels in Spain which offer real value for money and a much friendlier welcome than the sheeple-factories you appear to aspire to.
And then, of course, you mention Tripadvisor as your bible :rotfl:
The really savvy traveller always uses his own initiative and judgement and not that of others.

100% right, I travel a lot in Spain and normally just turn up at an hotel/hostal and ask their rates then haggle,
dont lets forget that a hostal in Spain is like a very good b&b here,
mind you my task is easier as I have a disc and book with nearly all the places that do accomodation on it,so can check prices before even going through the doorI

Yup, it's how people have traveled over the centuries before the invention of the internet.
I can think of nothing worse than being booked into a crap hotel and being forced to stay there simply because I was " sensible " and booked up for the duration of my holiday on the strength of some
" reviews " in Tripadvisor.
Use your nous, initiative, commonsense or whatever. Ask around, befriend a local, meet someone in a bar and get chatting. I've stayed in some fantastic hotels all over the world this way.
But then this forum seems to be divided into those who want their holidays to be predictable or those who, as you say, relish the adventure.0 -

It's also the difference in attitude between a "holidaymaker" and a "traveller".0 -
You go on holiday to have a holiday not spend half of it looking and haggling for accommodation.
If you want to a*se about
take a tent with you because you may not find anywhere else.0 -

Have you ever been to Spain on anything other than a package
holiday ?
Because it seems to me from your posts that you're very much a lager and chips type of holidaymaker.
Spain is a wonderful country for a holidaymaker/traveller with some imagination and the spirit of adventure and in my experience once the Spanish know you're not a lager and chip type they treat you completely differently.
Even on the Costas.0 -
