Holiday for mum and son (14)

Hi, have been unable to venture far in last 9 yrs due to medical condition but hurrah! Now sorted. Want to treat my son to a special holiday on a reasonable budget. Have been looking at Mark Warner, Club Med, but they are pretty expensive (£3000 plus for two weeks at European resort from 2 July) and Mark Warner have very mixed reviews on Trip Advisor. Any ideas gratefully received - ideal would be all inclusive, in Europe, with lots of activities for a fantastic 14 year old boy and plenty of pampering for mum after a rough few years. I don't want to lift a finger!

Hi,
I have a teenage son, and at that age i think it is far easier now than when he was under 11.
Anyhoo, if you want to stay in europe maybe one of the first choice holiday villages may be good.
If you are prepared to go further He may be a bit big for disney, I went back in April and my one loved it even though he was moaning at first, but then was moaning when we had to leave
although seaworld, busch gardens and universal is good for any age, the dominican republic was fantastic IF you can get the accomodation right, also Kenya is great, but this isnt normally the season for kenya but i am no expert and could be wrong. I stayed in orlando for 2 weeks over easter for myself, teenage son and 3 year old for just over 2k, dominican was over xmas 2010 (returned to uk on NYE) again for the 3 of us all inclusive for just over £2k
What is your budget?0 -
how about a cruise?
we have been on lots of cruises and my 13year old dd loves them! loads of facilities for everyone.
our last cruise was a carribean from miami for 2 weeks and we paid about £1200 each, which i think is good value.0 -
Hi Hoxtonbabe, Dominican Republic sounds interesting - do you have any suggestions about getting the accommodation right? Did you manage it OK? £2k sounds a bargain for three over Xmas. I would go to £3k if I thought i could guarantee something really fab.
thanks for your response, and to Graciesmummy too - my son's dad took him on a nile cruise in December (just before the uprising!) so I'd like to do something a little different, but worth bearing in mind for another year.0 -
Not a great time to go to the Dom Rep though. The humidity is stifling in July and August and it could rain quite often. During the day you can counter the humidity by going in the pools but it is no fun at night when you are sat outside at the bar sweating! :rotfl:
What about Turkey? Yes it will be hot but the humidity will be a bit lower.
There are some excellent hotels now, especially in the Belek area that have bowling, cinemas and all kinds of things to keep kids amused in them.:beer:0 -
I too was going to suggest Turkey as I have been 3 times, but I have not stayed anywhere really plush over there or worth reccommending, fair point about the humdity in dom republic, I went over xmas and was perfect so I supppose July would be hell0

Why not ask your son where he would like to go?
For me though, Turkey would be my first choice. I love it.0 -
How long can you go for?
I have been to Asia the past two summers, and going back to Japan for 9 days in Sept. For 3000, the two of you could have a great time over there, probably SE Asia best as for that budget you could have a lot of fun! Reports may say a bit of rain at this time of year, which is true, but have found the rain (if it happens) literally lasts a few hours IF THAT and is still hot! I certainly would not be put off! You can fly cheaply around SE Asia with AirAsia.com (take a look)
You could plan the route together, maybe a city or two, beaches, temples?! Obviously just a suggestion, but if you're after a great experience together, this could be it!! Hotels, food, transport etc are certainly ALOT cheaper than europe! For flights take a look at kayak.co.uk or maybe STA Travel as they offer discounts for students and under 26, but also sell tickets for you! If my mum had done this for me at 14, I'd have been well excited! Just depends whether this is your thing...have fun whatever you decide!!Save £12K in 2013 £4000/90000
