Am thinking of offering a home to a 15mths rescue dog.
I also have a bullmastiff !!!!! and am wanting an idea of how amenable they are.
Anyone here got one.

You might have a bit of a handful with one of these unless you really know what you are doing - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boerboel0

In my experience they are lovely dogs but do need training as they are very large and strong. My friend had 2 a male and a female. If you are used to a mastiff then I would think you know what you are getting into0

I have had large dogs before but having read that it does seem to point towards strong socialisation as a puppy and obviously as a young adult rescue I wouldn't know his history.
On the other hand I am a strong believer in not demonising an animal / breed. As with any dog I would see them as an individual.
With this poor chap I am worried that he will be over looked as he is a large dog and expensive to keep.
Would really like to hear from someone who actually knows one or has one.:beer:0 -
The 2 I knew were both from a breeder so brought up from pups by the same owner, I do remember one day that the female did grab my arm though but did not break the skin, I can't remember why now. I thought they were lovely dogs and we used to walk our dogs together every evening. I dont think I have seen any in this country. I am from South Africa.
Does the rescue know anything about the previous history? According to the Dogs Trust mag I read today they are easier than Bull Mastiffs and a very loyal but as they are from the same breed I imagine many things are the same. Maybe you could foster the dog for a while to see how it goes?0
