Timing the switch to new suppliers
My contract with npower is over on 30th June (for both gas and electricity), after which I'm going to switch to new suppliers. Obviously, there's a cancellation penalty if I cancel before that date.
Should I wait until 30th June before applying to the new suppliers, or should I apply now (thereby assuming that the switching process will take more than three weeks to implement) ?
Thanks for any advice
Best Regards
Basjoe

You should be fine, as a switch invariably takes 4 weeks plus.No free lunch, and no free laptop

In similar position. Currently with edf and want to change to n power. Edf lady told me today that if you request a switch before the end of your contract, you will incur a cancellation charge. My tarriff ends 30 June and the charge is £25.0

Well she would wouldn't she?
However, read your terms & conditions. As stated earlier, typically the terms only apply an early exit fee if you actually switch before the end date - when you request to switch doesn't matter (except no supplier will allow you to state 'do not switch until...'. However it takes a minimum of 4 weeks to switch)."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
Precisely. While you remain on supply, you must remain in contract. For them to suggest otherwise is clearly absurd- I hope someone is going to challenge this.No free lunch, and no free laptop
