I installed over the last edition, but when I tested it I was told I still had 1.5.0_10

- test at http://java.com/en/download/installed.jsp

So I uninstalled and deleted all versions (there were still 3 others taking up over 200 MB), installed this one afresh, and now it's fine

I don't think the Java Update works that well, as I hardly ever had notification and the downloads didn't work except manually, and now it might not help that it's changed from checking once a month to midnight on Sundays (edit - I've switched it to monthly at a more sensible time)

Both the Java install (new version) and uninstall (any old versions) tries to enable the Java Scheduler in Startup options, regardless of whether or not you told it not to do this the last time. And the time before.... Yes, Yet Another Program to load at startup, the only function seeming to be to check if there is (yet another) new update. Just like all the other programs which waste your RAM and CPU time pointlessly...

Yes, I do feel better now!
