Someone spat in my food!

Hi. I feel so disgusted and violated right now, I'm not sure what I should do next.

Last night I made a lovely Spanish stew that was to last me for at least a couple of days. I left it out in the kitchen overnight. Pan covered with a lid. This morning I lifted the lid to find someone had SPAT in it. Phlegm and all. I immediately had to run to the bathroom because I thought I was going to vomit. I live with 5 housemates and now I can't trust either of them. I have a suspicion it's one of the housemate's friends I really really dislike because he visited last night and he probably knows I'm not overly fond of him, but I don't want to pin the blame on anyone if I don't have the proof. I was thinking of leaving a very passive aggressive note about it, but that's not going to solve anything. I doubt the culprit will own up.

I haven't eaten anything since. I fear all my food is contaminated and I dread to think this has happened before without my knowing! What the heck do I do!?!

Firstly, calm down. It was a shoddy thing to do, but most likely spur of the moment, and the person is unlikely to have methodically trashed all your other food too.

I think you have to talk to your housemates - especially the one whose friend you suspect of doing it. Everyone who was in the house last night could have some knowledge of it.

Failing that, if you live in a house where that kind of thing might happen, perhaps you should consider moving home?

Probably just jealousy that you had something nice to eat and they continue to subsist on a diet of cold beans and bread. ;)

Surely you have a suspect? Not that they'll ever admit it of course.

I once found phlegm under my food in a bistro after I had eaten some of it. I did not react well. At least in your case it was on the top where you could see it.

Plant a small spy camera ( they do some that hide in ball pens) cook another stew and catch the culprit then either get them worked over or confront them with the
evidence infront of the others ,then get them beaten.

you could tell your housemates about it and then say you made some more ('having thrown the yukky one out' but don't) and invite them to 'share' it with you
