council housing help :-(

hi,
i have been on the waiting list with the local council housing and a housing association.
yesterday the housing association said i had been offered a house and were coming today for me to sign the forms ect.
15 mins before they were due to arrive the council phoned and said they made a mistake and are retracting the offer. me and my 2 kids are gutted:'-(

ive been to the council who implied it was the associations fault so i went there, they have said it was the council who withdrew my application.
im going back to speak to the head of allocations later today but im looking for any advice before i go there, do i have any rights with this considering it was their mistake and not mine?

  • Have you asked why they have withdrawn the offer?
It sounds to me like you were second in line to be offered and the first people maybe declined then changed their minds. Or if its anything like my local authority the left hand does not know what the right is doing.

I doubt you have redress on this but you could ask the question why.

So far the person at the council said he doesnt know about it said it was the housing association, they say the council withdrew the application as they made a mistake going by the points, she said someone came in with more points and I shouldn't have been offered it. To me it sounds within the 24 hours of being verbally offered the house they changed there minds and are giving it to someone else! I can't see how this can be allowed?!
  • Maybe an emergency cropped up and they needed to rehome someone quickly

It is getting harder and harder to secure LA property and I think in the future it will only be availabe emergency types
