Options
Hi, just dropped my ds off at school and went grocery shopping, thought it wouldn't be that busy. It was mad. I'm really dreading next week now. Hubby sugested going at midnight but cashier said she worked until 11pm last week and it was still busy. She reakons about 2am. When I asked CS lady she reakons really early.
I got quiet a bit today but just need to get fruit, veg and fresh stuff.
What do you all think? I'd rather get up at 5am in the morning the shop when its packed.
Thanks

  • I know....local Tesco today was packed! Dreading next week, but I am going next Thursday at 7am. We went at that time last year and it wasn't bad to start with and by the time we finished, the store was packed! The earlier the better!

Would you not do an online shop. I know you have to pay for delivery but in my view it is a price well worth paying. There are normally codes knocking around for discounts.

I try to get an early morning delivery, so that my items are more likely to be in stock. I will then do a small shop for fresh veg etc.

I used to work in Asda on the night shift filing up on grocery. It took most of the night to get the shelves filled, so if you went before about 3 or 4am it would be touch and go if all the stuff you want would be availabe. We used to have people coming in at midnight and most of the stock was still buried on pallets so without unloading everything on to the floor to get at it you would not be able to buy it. We often had to cut the side of cases half way down the outside of the pallet and try to prise things out.
  • Thanks blue nose but I thought I'd seen somewhere on here that all the delivery slots for tesco home delivery were gone (they only ones that deliver here) i'll have another check, it would be much better if I could do that.
  • I usually do mine three days before hand about 10.00pm - you find there are pallets of veg which are there till the big day so there's no advantage waiting till Xmas eve. might as well stock pile at home in the garage!
  • anytime in say April during school term time about 9am

I agree with Millie. I too work at Asda and very early morning is the best time to go. You may not be able to buy alcohol until 8am though unless they've got an extended licence.

We always go to Sainsburys a couple of hours before they close on Xmas eve - most turkeys, ducks etc. are half price or less and they usually give all the fruit and veg away for nothing or a few pence.
