What happens when JSA Contribution...

...runs out after 6 months?

Still have 5 months to find a job, but (at least I hope) this time of the year is not good for finding permenant jobs. Have applied for several but just not getting any replies!

If you are within the capital and income limits you can claim Income based JSA.

    Hi.

You should be getting notifications soon (if not already) to state that your JSA(Contribution Based) is about to cease. You must act on this letter.

You need to ask for a JSA3 and claim JSA (Income Based).

It is important that you claim it and continue to sign on to keep getting your NI stamps credited. Your personal circumstances may be such that you either do or don't receive any money, but you must still sign on if you haven't found work and are still satisfying the JSA rules.

You may have insurance policies (Credit Card, Loans etc) that require you to be signing on for the insurance to pay out.

Remember however, if you continue to sign on, even just for your 'stamps' you must continue to satisfy the JSA rules - ie keep actively seeking work and available etc.
  • I was in the same situation (until I started a job last week). The other advantage with still signing on is that you can claim expenses to attend interviews
