camera says 'card cover open'

hi,
my 6 year old olympus camedia c 350 zoom 3.2m pixel camera has been fab but when i open the lens the message 'card over open' appears.
i have removed and refitted the 16mb memory card and closed the already closed door but still the same message and i cant use it.
is the camera dead? do i need a new one?
can anyone reccomend a decent compact camera?.
my last few cameras have always been olympus as i believe their lens are one of the best.

Have a look here. It says
"Flatten both the push button of the switch and the plastic 'thingy' just a little bit (with a sharp knife) so that they make flush contact again. Problem solved on my C-350."
