I was wondering if one of you nice guys could help me and offer some advice!
I have only ever switched energy companies once and that was just to swap to dual fuel so I am getting a bit bamboozled by the energy comparrission sites! I was wondering if you could look at the details below and confirm whether it would be the right idea to move to the EDF fixed price 2014 tariff. Thanks in advance.
I am currentlt on the Eon Fixed online v8 and my yearly consumption is as follows-
Gas 10,079
Elec 5126
I live in a WA3 post code. What has most attracted me to this tariff is that I am a mature student and due to finish my nursing course in March 2014, so there will be some peace of mind. But my dilema is first of all is this the cheapest or have I missed something? Or do I go for a cheaper tariff for the next year and hope there are no more hikes??????????????
Oh to be 18 again and have none of these worries!:j

It would appear that the fixed price 2014 is much the same price, within 1% of what you are paying now. So you'll not be paying any more for your energy.
The alternative is to save 15% on your current prices and go with the v2 Online saver.
However with Scottish power announcing their 19% rise in gas prices the online saver may not remain competitive for the long term.
Its your choice, IIWY I'd go with the 2014 fixed tarrif, but move quickly as it may soon be pulled. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

To fix or not has been a dilemma for all of us for years!
There isn't a really 'right decision' just a 'worthwhile gamble'.0 -

Loads of people are fooled by the 'energyhelpline' price for your present tariff as it makes the assumption that you will remain with the company on the tariff they intend to switch customers.0 -
Cheers chaps, count me amongst those it fooled. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

Only real benefit of fixed/cap tariffs is that you have a degree of certainty over price (not consumption) for a given period.
The problem is that if prices fall during your contract you lose and if they go up then you have a bigger leap at the end to rejoin the escalator. Of course they may drop at the end but unlikely.
In the long run you will not beat it.
I think it is more realistic to use the tariff you will go to as this is more representative of the current market.
Doesn't make it any less painful:cool:"If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....
