Automated line busy message

Morning All

I have tried doing a forum search and nothing has come up.
There is a automated line busy message, please try again later message you can hear when you try and ring somebody and they do not answer.
The message kicks in about 40 seconds of the ring tone. Can this message be deactivted.
I'm with BT, tried swopping phones, but the message is present.
This is not normally a problem, but when you are entering a radio competition, to get a ring tone is very hit or miss (mostly miss).
You get the ring tone only to be cut off by the line busy message.
Most annoying.

I would say not, as it's probably a feature of the service you are calling.
If it's a premium rate line, as competitions often are, it makes sure you get charged for the call and they get a slice of the revenue.

If it's a busy tone you're getting rather than a ringing tone, then it is a feature of your line.

    Thanks for you reply.
No it's not the number I'm calling, which is a premium number.
I have tried calling my mobile and if I do not answer the automated message kicks in saying the mobile number you are calling..etc
The problem is that they are not answering, the line busy message kicks in, the message do go on to say that I will not be charged for this call, which is even more puzzling because all I'm getting is the ring tone.

It may be that regulations say that premium rate lines must be answered as expected and they cannot charge just because nobody (or no machine) is able to take the call.
If you get the same response calling from a different line then it is almost certainly a feature of the number you are calling.

I'm phoning my mobile from my home phone and get message after 40 seconds saying mobile you are calling is unavalable at the moment. So I think the automated message kicks in no matter who I call from my home phone, land or mobile and don't get answered.

Your mobile provider probably doesnt want you listening to ringtone on a number thats not answering so they return the message, its not BT doing it but the mobile operator, try calling a landline number without an answer service like 1571 from your landine, if the call isnt answered you will get ringtone for a couple of minutes before the system drops the call and gives NU tone, not a message saying 'try later', also you say you are with BT, but do you pay BT for calls or are your calls with another provider , if you are BT but pay a CPS provider for calls, try 1280 infront of the call from your landline to 'force' the call over BT's network and see if that gives the same response, but dont call a mobile to test it.
