Mini One with 60,000 on the clock. Although the glass's guide says £5800 I understand that £200 less may not be a lot to some people however it is to me (especially since i am now retired) and its also about the principle. We did not accept an offer yet they have went ahead and processed it. Because i wasn't there at the time and didn't hear the conversation I am worried that they have duped my husband (he is retired and very deaf!) and taken what he has said as an acceptance however he is adamant he said No and that they would have to speak to me (i would love to get the recording of the call). Also as the car is registered in my name so he shouldnt have been able to accept. Not sure what to do now :(

we were advised by the police after the incident to contact our own insurer which we did on the sat morning, a courtesy car was delivered to us on the sunday morning. The bus company's insurer sounded a bit annoyed we hadn't went direct to them but they only contacted us yesterday. When the car was hit it mounted the curb and smashed into our wall which has been badly damaged. I hadnt' contacted to house insurer yet so the bus companys insurer said yesterday they would deal direct with builders to get it fixed. so i don't need to contact my house insurer, is this ok?

When I look up the value of that car on Parkers the value is £4990 for a franchised dealer assuming it is an auto. You can do this yourself here http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/prices/ Please reread the part of the link from the Ombudsman regarding valuations of cars and differing prices from the different valuations companies they accept.

When your relation mentioned they would put it o the forecourt at £5800 did he mean thats the value they would ask or the exact amount glasses value the car at as this can make a difference.

Over coming the claims handler on whether you accepted the offer is relatively simple with DL, it would be worth getting the correct ammunition eg what the car is realistically worth before going down this route.

The offer they made yesterday of £5600 looks not to bad assuming the glasses valuation is correct and I have done the Parkers valuation correctly (Please check Parkers yourself).

I would speak to friends ad family etc and ask for recommendations for local builders. Then get two quotes from different builders to replace / repair the damage. Bear in mind that they will only want to pay for repairs rather than replacing the whole wall. However speak to the builders and ask whether it's feasible or whether it's best to rebuild that section. If it needs rebuilding rather than repairing get them to quote for this but to note down their reasoning behind this.

Get working on sourcing the quotes asap

You can then speak to the bus company re going ahead with the work, as I mentioned before they can be very hard work so play it by ear. If your not happy go to your home insurers.

Even if you claim from the bus company you should still notify your Insurers at some point for their information there has been an incident.
