Your human right is to spend your income on food and heating and shelter instead of whatever it is you are currently spending it on.

It's fast getting so that I can no longer afford gas and may have to turn it off next winter, but I'm not sure it's a human rights issue.

Hi prosaver - Your Human Rights is an interesting debating point, but you do have Contractual Rights enshrined in law.

From the day you are personally notified of changes to your pricing, (be it by Email, Letter or a Bill), you have the right to inform Scot Power within 10 days that you reject the new contract and that you are starting the Switch process - Once you have done this SP must stay with your old prices till you have switched, and nor can they charge you early exit fee's

Providing that you don't owe them any money (or can afford to clear it if you do of course). Consumer Focus rep. was apparently angry on the radio news yesterday (at suggesting some would have to choose between eating & power if things continue in this vein) so it will be interesting to see whether they & / or Ofgem are actually willing to do anything about it beyond making a bit of a noise in the news

Until then I'm not sure the Human Rights Act argument you use would pass a Judge successfully but I am aware of a customer determined to challenge Npower in the Courts who is quoting aspects of the Human Rights Act (amongst many other Legislative Acts) as part of their case.

A District Judge has so far refused Npowers attempt to have the defence struck out as showing no prospect of success & suggested there were in fact some novel legal principles to be considered.
