NEW Tariff name for Increased Rates

a:link { } Dear Forum ,
Over the years I've tried to keep a track of my Gas & Electricity costs but one of the practices of the utilities industry mitigates against it . It first came to my attention whilst I was transferring from Scottish Power's Online Saver 7 dual fuel contract to EDF's Online S@ver 7 contract last winter in response to Scottish Power's massive November 2010 increases on that tariff . With all of the usual utilities' confusion injected was the additional difficulty in having Scottish Power use their original rates in computing the final bills . I note from other forum items that EDF appear to be raising their Online S@ver 7 rates and of course all the comparison sites are now using the increased rate for their computations , leading to major scope for the confusion and over charging of users . Do Moneysupermarket fans think it would be a good idea to require that all utility companies issue new designations and reprint their literature whenever they change their rates and clearly advise customers that in the event of their taking no action which new tariff would be applied by default and on which date ? In this way genuine comparisons would be facilitated and customers would at least have the opportunity to take meter readings on the date of the increases and subsequently correct over/under payments with the supplier . If we all thought it would be useful maybe someone could ask Martin to add it as another feature of his successful crusading ,
Yours sincerely

    I didn't think EDF's OS7 was seeing increases. What have I missed?

And suppliers do send out letters to those whose deal is coming to an end to let them know their options. Or at least they say they do.

Ah well coincidentally I've just received my letter from EDF giving me the new OS7 charges from 14 July. What a shame.
