Downsizing from people carrier
We are thinking about getting rid of our Peugeot 807 people carrier and getting a Mondeo instead.
The 807 has had lots of problems and cost a lot to keep on the road, and we've got to the stage where we just don't trust it anymore.
We have 3 teenage sons, so the space of the 7 seater has been great, but we are thinking about getting a Mondeo as it's so much cheaper to run than a full size people carrier.
I think the thing I am trying to get my head round is the thought of the boys on the back seat on long journeys. We have had a test drive with them which was Ok but isn't the same as the long drive we have when visiting family etc.
I would be really interested to hear anyone's experience with downsizing and if they regretted it.
Or if anyone else has a Mondeo and three strapping lads how do you get on?
Thanks for your help

I have had no issues with my mk3Mondeo. Mk4 is even bigger.
No normal car will have the room of a full size mpv.
Addison Lee is getting rid of its 08plate fleet, Sharon diesl autoos from £6100, Galaxy diesel autos from around £7000, they have a webpage, addleecarsales.
I think a Mondeo will be fine,, dependant on budget there may be other alternatives.
I find that once the flexibility of an mpv has been experienced it is hard to go back.
You just bought one of the worst mpvs for reliability that is all.
Look at the previous shape Galaxy/Sharon or the cheap Addison Lee new shape high milers.0 -
We just "downsized" our 807 (yes, lots of problems...) to a Ford SMax. We needed 3 real seats in the middle and this is one of the few cars that has that (that isn't French....).0

Thanks for the replies,
Another MPV is an option and we have looked at the SMax, but we are also trying to reduce costs and the Mondeo would be quite a bit cheaper to run than a full size people carrier. But I do take your point about being used to the size, I love the size of the 807 and the sliding doors are fab, but it's now nearly £100 to fill at the pumps and I normally get through two tanks of fuel a month.
Thanks again

How old are the teenage sons because it obviously covers 13-19? As they get older then is it likely that all 3 will be with you on every long journey? If no then have 3 in the back sometimes is not the same as having 3 in the back every time especially if you need stuff like luggage.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

Define long journey. For me it is 500 miles. For some people I know, its 50 miles.0

Hi,
The boys are aged 13 - 15, so will be with us for a while. Should also add that all 3 are tall for their age, Hubby's family have history of being well over 6 foot tall and our lads seem to be following suit!
The long journeys to family are usually 2 - 3 hours driving but a couple of times a year we will also be looking at much longer journeys for holidays going to France and Holland for example.
Thanks for the advise

can one not get rid of a scullery maid so as to keep the 807 or something?
