My 2nd baby is due in Sept and I was talking to my OH last week about the fact that I have everything for him but not a single thing is new. Its all second hand, NCT, ebay, and hand me down items. And we feel so PROUD of that.
We understand the true value of material things, like designer clothes and plasma TVs. they just dont feature in our world at all. My little girl is 2 years old and LOVES the carboot on a sunday morning with mummy. She loves helping daddy water the carrots and potatoes. She loves helping mummy bake cakes, but never understands why we have to put some in the freezer!
Because of these OS ways and our savings we all make we are able to go take my DD on holiday and create more special memories that last a lifetime
and because we are very OS and budget are money well, we live so much more content and happier and stress free life. Surely surely that is what matters more, a secure home, and happy family that loves and respects one another.Happy days

I just wish people like stalkinghorse knew what adopters had to go through to get a child. Most people take being able to have children for granted.Adopters have to go through alot to get a child .
Very true. Adopters have to go over so many hurdles, yet there's people out there that can't take care of themselves let alone a child having kids. I think the OP is taking a very sensible approach and no differenct to someone planning cutting expenditure before going on to maternity pay.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. Stalkinghorse; proof that money cannot buy manners or decency.
Mennie, I don't have any experience with adoption or child rearing in general I'm afraid, but good luck with it allx

Our wedding day! 13/06/150 -
firstly please excuse my grammar as i am on my phone. We are applying to adopt and have our first social worker visit in 2 weeks. We will really struggle financially when i go onto adoption pay so we are trying to prepare as best we can now. We have set up two pavingss accounts one for things we will need when placed and one to supplement the adoption pay but we only have £320 saved i would like £2500 by this time next year. I am looking for tips to squeeze each penny til it squeaks and how to start off family life the oldstyle way. Thanks x
Back to the OP's original question
Mennie, from the look of your signature you're along the right lines anyway by saving up for things. I would suggest you draw up an SOA (statement of affairs) to see where your money goes every month. For food, meal plan it saves a fortune and write a list before you go to the supermarket. Ask in the supermarket (or keep an eye out if you don't want to ask) when they mark items down. get yourself onto the freebies board, there's lots of goodies on there for little ones and adults (if it turns out the freebies you get for the child isn't suitable put them onto freecycle to help someone else). Get onto the survey sites, you can make at least enough by doing these whilst watching tv to pay the tv license or broadband every month.

stalkinghorse wrote: »Would you care to point out where I mentioned money? For your information I have experience of the adoption system through a friend's experience and I can tell you that adopted children are a bit like stray dogs, generally you don't know their temperment. Still, if it is the only way you can get a child, fair enough, take the risk.
Money or no money you're still a c*ck. What a 'friend' you are refering to your friends children as stray dogs.
Some people choose to adopt rather than having birthchildren, if any birth child of mine turned out like you i'd rather the 'stray dog' anyday.:j Mortgage Free!! )Generally trying to cut back where possible :j0
