Hi wonder if anyone can help?
I have a samsung galaxy tab and have just downloaded the bbc iplayer app, trouble is i can only play it if i have wifi connection.
How do i get a wifi conection?
And why is this needed?
Why cant i just use my network?
Do i need a computer to be able to connect to wifi?
I don't have an internet connection as we don't have a computer.
Sorry if i come across as stupid, just haven't got a lot of knowledge in this area.
Thanks

Ok, here goes.
You need to have either A) Wifi in your house or 2) be in a Wifi hotspot eg. McDonalds or summat. Some are free and some charge for the passkey.
By your 'network', I'm guessing you mean 02/Vodafone whatever? No chance, forget that. They may rent you a dongle at a monthly tariff?
You really have no home broadband and you forked out for a Samsung tab?0 -

Thanks for the advice
Yes, really, i have no home broadband, can't afford it at the moment.
I was lucky enough to win the galaxy tab in a competition.
Thank you.0 -
Try scanning for your neighbours broadband, it may be unprotected ie. no password required?
PS - I didn't really suggest this, my fingers just typed randomly ....0 -
Failing that, you could just go to Starbucks, McDonalds etc. every time you want to watch iPlayer?

congratulations on winning the galaxy tab!
if you find the phone doesnt suit your lifestyle then i guess you could sell it and buy something better for you? i've a friend that does a lot of comping and she sells lots of things she doesnt need.
with the rise of wi-fi phones it wouldnt surprise me if there is a way to get a wifi set up without owning a computer in your home... maybe through BT but you'd then be paying for their monthly service and the internet router box. might be something to look into if you find yourself 'missing out' on things you'd like to do with your new phone but can only do right now in cafes. good luck with it

I have a question about this....
Can you jailbreak (or whatever the Android equivalent is) and install an app like My3G on the iphone in order to trick the machine into thinking it is connected to wifi over the 3G network?0 -

probably but that would require root and the OP doesnt have a computer or internet to download the required software.
but even if he could 'trick' the device to think it was on wifi you have to take note that one program on iplayer can easily be 170-350MB, if the OP has any form of 'cap' on their mobile data, a couple of programs could easily end up costing hundreds of pounds, and if they cant afford home broadband they definately cannot afford to have a bill for a couple hundred pounds, in one month.
forcing it to stick to wifi is definately a good idea, I would just go to your local McDonnalds or starbucks to watch iplayer.0 -

I don't agree, sorry. It depends on what your data allowance is. Then how *I* decide to use *my* data allowance is *my* business, not the BBC's. I just find it extremely irritating, they should just have a big warning come up every time saying that you understand that it can use a lot data and that you agree blah blah blah. Then people are at least free to decide for themselves. Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0 -
someone in your area will have BT Broadband
Then you can hop on to their connection Legally!! with a BTFon / BTOpenworld account (£15 for a weeks access i think!)
it might just work for streaming iplayer.
Also instead of using the iplayer app try the iplayer website. try the firefox browser app
what mobile network is it on? if you have a choice go with "Three" and their "Pay as you go: all you can eat" 3G sim card...Laters
