I am a dance teacher at a local dance school, there are two of us the person who's 'school' it is and me, we are holding a show this summer and we have previously asked parents to pay for costumes etc, but this year we are struggling to get funds in, we had an idea to hold a raffle to raise funds and ask business' to provide prizes in return for an ad in the show programme, however i'm not sure where we stand legally with this, as in are we allowed to do it, could anyone please advise ? Sorry if this is in the wrong place, i am a lurker not a poster.

Presumably you have public liability insurance.
I dont see a problem but I'm no expert.
Re the raffle, I think you can have a raffle on the night as long as tickets are sold on the night and the prizes drawn on the night it is okay,
Other thank that I think if youre having a bigger raffle selling tickets far and wide before the raffle then yu have to apply somewhere to be a promoter. Im sure someong will advise where you would apply.
Hope you raise lots of funds.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Are you a charity? If so, a raffle may be questionable, but consider an auction! The prizes auctioned will often raise more than a raffle anyway, especially if you make a nice occasion of it, plug everybody's donations "and this is for a £100 voucher from xyz hardware shop who are kindly supporting us this year" - anyone who wants hardware from that shop may as well bid £99.50, whereas as a raffle prize it may add £20 to the fund tops. Have a local celebrity/someone popular run the auction to make an event of it, make sure you get people turn up (maybe have a public show/demo of the dancing too, to get all the parents along), find someone to sponsor a glass of wine for those that want it to oil the wheels of commerce, and have a smashing night!0
