Is it worth working full time at £10 an hour wage due to Travel expenses

Yes, I understand and absolutely agree with you regarding future prospects but at the minute I am struggling even though earning half decent wage. I can't afford to take the kids out on the weekend and I don't remember myself going out for few drinks in the last one year. there is a possibility my wife will go back to work but I can't look after the kids after doing 12 hours shift including travelling time so whatever she'll bring will go towards nursery but hopefully next year when both kids will join nursery she will work part time.0

I know where you are coming from. I was surprised last Year when I was under threat of redundancy that if I did lose my 17.5 hour 20k job, so long as I managed to find 16 hours minimum wage I wouldnt be any worse off financially, but luckily I kept my job which I love and I'm proud that I don't get full tax credit or housing benefit and no council tax benefit at all because at least it shows I'm contributing something towards my upkeep!! Also remember your kids won't be young forever in a couple of Years your wife may get a part time job (I think anyone who dosent earn at least £7475 per year is mad!!). Finally the Government have realized how flawed the tax credit system is and when it is all replaced with Universal credits, I think a few people will come very unstuck! Oh just one more thing? I thought since April couples had to work minimum 24 hours to claim tax credits?0

I know what you mean, I am loving the fact that I don't need to claim HB etc. I'll speak to my manager tomorrow and see if I can do longer hours and work my full time hours in four days that'll save me few quid. I just realised I haven't included my £900 council tax bill which also reduces my current earnings.
Hope they sort out the tax credit system and don't penalise people who are making an effort to earn a living. I am getting child tax credits not the wtc prob because I work over 35 hours so even if she doesnt work its still more than 24 hours between us.0 -
If people are getting nearly £10K a year in tax credits for working 20 hours there is something massively wrong with this system..!0
