boot fair advice on selling

Hi

I am doing my first boot fair (as an adult) on sunday and just had a few questions if anyone knows the answers i would be grateful.

1) can i sell make up thats been bought for me but I havent used and you can see its not been used - seems silly to through away

2) can i sell new items that are unwanted gifts? would it be better to take off labels etc?

3) how much would you charge for paper back fiction books - your normal authors James Paterson, Mary Higgins Clark etc

4) Does furniture sell?

5) can i sell used custome jewellery (ie stuff you would get in DPs?)

It may be worth having a wander around the boot sale you're planning on selling at as a buyer first if you have time. That way you can see what seems to sell & the prices that people are prepared to pay.
A friend of mine does car boots, in our city she sells different things at different venues.

There is a sticky thread at the top of this board and you might want to take a wander through some of the last pages to see what other people are doing, boot sales though vary from area to area and I second hermum's suggestion about going as a buyer forst to take a look around.

The books you mention for instance would be not worth bothering with at my local car boots and I would probably dump them in one of those oxfam bins rather than waste room in the car.

You can sell or attempt to sell whatever you like at a boot sale - could be used make up if you want - if someone wants to buy it thats up to them. Check out your own local boot sales as everyone else has said for an idea of prices. When you know what you want for something double it,:) ie: if you want 50p for something, say its a pound, if you want £1, say its 2 etc. People will always knock you down.

Easiest way to find out if people will buy is to take it and see what happens! We always have a mixture of stuff on our stall from chairs and mirrors to collectibles and kids toys but car boots are different in each part of the country.

Agree with Mummyyum about the prices, people like to haggle!

Of course you can, why wouldn't you be able to...?

25p-50p if old/tatty, 75p-£1 if new/latest bestseller type

Only very small pieces I would imagine (e.g. stool, bookshelf ect), but depends on the individual boot sale

Of course, why not?

Bottom line is as others have said, you can sell pretty much whatever you want. Best idea is to go to one first and see what others are selling, what prices they are selling for, and try to note which stalls seem to have most customers and what they are selling.
