HSBC charge issue
Okay I had an £88 direct debit to come out of my HSBC account. On the morning in question I put in £80. I didn't realise that there were insufficient funds.
I got a letter from HSBC about a charge and thought fair dues. I went onto my online banking and was shocked to see that a huge credit had gone into my account on the same day via bank transfer.
I spoke to HSBC and was told that I hadn't had any funds the day before so the subsequent credit had nothing to do with them. They also said that I should have called the bank before 3pm on the day to let them know I had funds in.
Is this fair or should I take action? And if yes in what form?

It is in accordance with their T+Cs.
Whether it is fair or not is a matter of opinion.
The only thing you can do is politely ask them to refund the fees on the grounds that you were unaware of the requirement to have cleared funds available the previous day.
If it is the first time you have been charged fees they may refund as a gesture of goodwill.0
