Where to eat near Ashbourne, Staffordshire?

Options
We are going to Alton towers for a few days this week and need some ideas as to where we can get evening meals.
We will be driving so getting to places isnt a problem, but I just have no idea in which direction to go for food!

Derby doesnt look to be too far away, but what is that like for resturants?

We need somewhere with good vegetarian options. We have no children with us.

Any ideas?
GC: £40 a week. Sticking to my budget, but never remembering to post in the relevant thread.
Probably buying toiletries that I don't need, as I can't resist a "bargain."

There is a lovely pub called The Star almost right next to Alton Towers at Cotton crossroads (Turn right out of Alton Towers main gates and follow the road and the pub is opposite the end of the road) where they do some lovely food.
There are a few nice pubs in Ashbourne and the surrounding area but I'm afraid the names escape me.
Alternatively you might like to use the restaurants in the hotels at Alton Towers as they are lovely too.

The good pub guide is an excellent resource for decent places to eat. There are a couple listed for around Ashbourne but dont remember the names - sorry.

Where are you staying, in Ashbourne or nearby?

Mistral @ Wirksworth is very good - they have several restaurants around the area, they have a web site.

I live in the area and the food is terrible and very expensive in the Alton Towers hotels, I used to work there - £20 + for a buffet and a drink!

Thank you all, that has given me some ideas to work with.

I think the Alton Towers hotel's are out since we want to eat our eveing meal after the park closes...I didn't think you could do that unless you are staying in the Hotels.

We are staying in Ashbourne itself.
