what comes first - carpet, skirting or architrave?

As above really, have 2 rooms and flight of stairs and landing to carpet, and these areas also need skirting having just been plastered and obviously the doors will need architraving too. I would of thought carpet first, skirting down to carpet then architrave round doors and meet the skirting but....
The carpet salesman said fit the skirting first, then his boys will carpet up to it, making it easier for when the carpet needs replacing
As for the architrave, am i right in saying its best to cut it to meet the skirting i.e skirt right up to the door opening or should i architrave right down to the floor and then fit the skirting?
I hope that made sense as its 3am and Im on a night shift
thanks in advance

i would def do skirting before carpet. and make sure you have it all well sanded/painted /glossed before laying the carpet or you will make a mess of your carpet and end up with wool/carpet fibres all over your skirting :mad:Wiggly:heartpulsFB0

architrave gos to the floor, then fit skirting, then fit carpet.0

Yes, I agree, this is the correct order the work should be done!I'm mad!!!! :rotfl::jand celebrating everyday every year!!!0 -
without a doubt the architrave to floorboard level should be first, then skirting butting up to it. finally the carpet.
so just like the others have said.Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today!
Cos if you do it today and like it...You can do it again tomorrow..

We just had a huge extension done. They fitted the architrave, then the skirting. We were having carpets fitted at a later date. In the end my fiance pulled the skirting of, the carpets were laid and then he put it pack on. Looks really good, we had found before when we had a carpet fitted there was a bit between the carpet and the skirting where it was put under that dust kept gathering. Now it is all neat. Next hassle will be when it needs painting again!!0

The correct order has already been given, but just as another re-assurance, architrave, then skirting, then carpet. The reason for that is that the architrave & skirting need to meet the floor boards so that should you wish to change the flooring finish, ie change carpet for tiles in the future, then they will stay in place unaffected. If it were the other way around, then you could end up with a gap between the floor finish and the skirting or need to take the skirting off to enable a change in flooring etc.0

architrave - skirting - prep&gloss - carpet - touch up gloss where fitters have cut skirting!0

Architrave - Skirting - prep & gloss - wall paper - Carpet.
Depends on the type of carpets you are having fitted as to when you do the wall papering...the stiff hessian backed carpet will damage your wall paper if it accidentally hits it whilst it’s being fitted!
The felt backed carpets probably won’t do any damage.0 -
Leave as much time as you can after painting to allow paint to harden before carpeting.0
