I have £2500 and i would like to put it into the best return savings account that will not penalise me for withdrawing it all when i need it and gives the best return i can get. Any suggestions please?

Open an egg savings account - pays 5.5% for the first six months, and 4.75% after that. It's always the grass that suffers, irrespective of whether the elephants are fighting or making love !!!0

Or the A&L 5.35%
no bonus with this account - it all depends how long you will hold the account. Yeah you could do egg for 6months, then A&L, but remember it takes 8 days to transfer from one t'other, so you need to decide how long you will hold the savings0
