I don't think it would be unfair for ITV to somehow weight more larger prize wins to those that actually pay to enter the competitions. After all without these entries these competitions probably wouldn't exist.

Of the people I ask many/most of them hold that view. However if ITV were in the future to change to that system I think they would have to openly declare that.

Some figures I was able to find for the ITV Real Deal phone-in:
Two years ago they were receiving some 16,000 paid-for calls to one comp which was awarding just a £2,000 prize. This came out when they were having to refund those callers because of a mistake.

Now if you suppose that for those 16,000 paid-for calls there was probably at least treble that number in free internet entries then a paid-for call offers a ridiculously low chance of recouping one's outlay.

I don't know how long the ITV can get away with doing that.

ITV make money from the ads at the side of the comps and the non-comping people I know enter via text as they don't read the small print and enter there and then so I think text entries are quite common. I've heard of quite a few people win the bigger ITV comps online and we need to remember that lots and lots of people don't register and don't come on if they win. If I won a really big ITV prize I would PM the poster to thank as I know my internet security is not fab and it would be pretty easy for someone dodgy to get hold of my email address so I wouldn't want to publicise that I'd just got super rich!! Not everyone goes on the 'I won I won' for various reasons.

Good luck everyone in winning an ITV comp! (and me!!)
