Morning all,
I have a 2yr old Advent 6311 lappie which is running fine, except the cooling fan cuts in every few minutes causing lappie to slow down, there is plenty of air around lappie, i have hoovered through vent to no avail.
Advice please?

The chip/motherboard has saftey measures and controls,
maybe the chip is turning on too late when the system is about to halt,
or the chip notices its got to hot and to allow it to cool has reduced speed to allow for a swift decrease in tempreture.
Try going into bios and reduce the tempreture to turn the fan on, this will kick in the fan earlier.
Or turn the fan so its always on (will drain your battery when not in charge) to see if it resolves the problem.
There are other processure controls which you monitor and control the chip, however used by advanced techi's of which I dont mess with.0 -
Could it be that the laptop is doing something intensive which is in turn causing the fan to cut in? may be worth monitoring it with task manager, see if it gets busy at the same time as the fan kicking in.kicking squealing gucci little piggy.0

there will be fluff clogging the CPU cooling fan (a separate fan to the case fan).
This fluff is of the same type that collects in our belly button holes - very greasy and usually blue.
you need to open the laptop and carefully wipe the fluff from the fan blades.0 -
Is that the same fluff Ray Mears uses to start his fires!!!!!!0

would also agree to this, sometimes you have a high power app, or a program gone into a loop. check CTRL ALT and DEL, and check the power usage.0
