Is this normal vendor behaviour?

Shocking behaviour by the vendors, if the EA is telling the truth! I suppose it's just possible that the vendor had told the EA to accept the first offer, but the EA thought they'd cleverly increase their commission by negotiating, either persuading the vendors to do so or even without telling the vendors. Cue the panic and disbelief when they heard you were no longer interested.

Sure, it's a game; but on this occasion the vendor/EA played it wrong and lost!

Thats all it was, they played it very badly!

The person who made a ridiculously low offer to me wasn't put off by my refusal to negotiate. She returned months later with another offer, still too low, but much closer to what the house eventually sold for.

Again, if I'm honest, I was pleased when someone else stepped in with a deal I could accept. By then, I'd learned that it is 'just business,' but because she'd been quite offensive initially, deep down, I didn't want her to have the house.

Sorry, I don't mean to be rude but what are you on?

A potential buyer had been offensive to you by putting in a low offer? God forbid that potential buyers should be free thinking and try to get value for their hard earned money.

Your post is actually offensive and shows exactly the sort of pretentious contempt that buyers are still held in by EAs and vendors.

An offer is an offer. The market is going nowhere but down and vendors should be happy for any interest in their house, let alone offers.

Probably about time you removed that newbie alert avatar with a post like that.

Please feel free to be as offended as you like Mr Gringo.

As you're 'new,' I'll just say that you've made some wide of the mark assumptions and then seen fit to get all uppity on the strength of them. If that's what gets you off, it's fine by me.;)

I think if you read my post properly you'll see that I was talking about the way emotions play a part for many inexperienced vendors, as I was after 21 years in the same house, having bought that privately. However, thanks to MSE, I became much more savvy, which is why I sold up, went into rented and sat out the rest of the main Crash. You see, my sale happened in 2008.

I subsequenty bought from a 'motivated' seller, so I now know all about making low offers, thank you. :)
