Very tempted by an Accord at £7K but reality has kicked in and I've remembered my focus is to get debt free. I reckon I'll have £3k cash by September so that'll be my budget.

Reckon I'll look at mondeos and octavias. Seem to be a lot more of the Ford's around but the Skoda is, I'm told, the better car.

Yea ,but the police have there own garages to fix any problems

    Shows how much you know.

The Police and Ambulance service may have their own garages but that doesn't mean they try to keep rubbish cars on the road by throwing money at them, though the LAS has had to do that to an extent with the crappyZafira diesela, but the manager that chose them was on a kick back i would think.

But getting back to your point which i think was aimed at the Skodas, police forces have them because they are solud and dependable.

Yes they might want beemers or Volvos but when budget is considered the Skoda is a solid car that lasts well, but in common with all VAG cars run on that platform they have lota of bushes that age and cause mot failure and affect the handling, hence my polybush comment.

Yorkshire Ambos have had Skoda Octavia Scouts for nearly two years now, car for the job, especially now it can be bought with a DSG gearbox.

London Ambulance service have had so much trouble with the reliability issues that they are going to Skoda apparently, they did get some free Volvo XC70's recently but that is via a government scheme and are not for regular frontline use though they do attend shootings and stabbings from what i have seen but are not routinely used for regular nines work, they are still owned by Volvo anyway, a bit of an issue as one of the young-uns stacked one last week.

The XC70 is a better car than the Octavia Scout but at 30k plus it wants to be, the fact that the Octavia is comparable to something like an XC70 should tell you all you want to know about how good the Skoda product is.
