Which Website has late deals like Teletext used to?

Can someone please explain how Expedia works? Every time I find a good deal, either on their site or through a comparison site, the final price always changes! Not just a small change but quite often two, three or four times more than the original price. It always comes down to a change in price for the flights. I have yet to find a holiday that comes to the original price. Something I am doing wrong? If not, what is the point if it just jumps up at the check out?
