Opinions Please on Odd goings on!

Hi, just want opinions and a bit of knowledge as something odd happening...
1 I have sold an item to a buyer.
2 The item on 'my sold items' in 'my ebay' completed the £ sign in blue as if the buyer had paid.
3 The ad for the item listing said at the top id been paid into my paypal account.
Ok you think, fine..... heres the odd things:
4 I check paypal...on the way to logging into paypal (via ebay browser) A strange email id inserted itself. I did not log in via this method as alarm bells rang.
5 I opened fresh browser, log in paypal and, yes youve guessed it NO payment for that item, or even on that date.
6 I email buyer / invoice buyer...only to be replied to to say they have paid.
7 I reply saying 'sorry, no you havent, I havent got it'
8 They forward me paypal receipt email they received as confirmation to say payment gone to the weird email id in step 4!!!!!!! - but it also says that I sold it!!!
ive informed paypal and ebay, and they have confirmed to me that there is nothing or no one else connected to my account, but that there is an account set up under the suspicious email id, that has received the money.
I have cleared my cookies etc and reset all passwords.
Thing is, the buyer says that they have reported it to paypal and that paypal have told them that the email id is me and that I have the money.........paypal told me that they would never say that to a buyer.
The buyer wont pay me for the item, and I have told them to request a refund... but I want to sell the item before xmas otherwise im stuck with it.
What do you all think? - sorry its long but its very very odd.
Should I just file a non paying bidder report and resell the item?
Thanks in advance.

i would call paypal....their tel no is on there somewhere-well hidden though-can't remember how i found it! That is really bizarre..sounds like some kind of scam though-is the buyers feedback good-sounds to me like it has been intercepted and you have both lost out-thats why i would call direct to get resolved.
good luck!0 -
Very odd indeed.
Wait with the NPB strike, as there seems to be confusion from everyone about this.
To me it does seem you are being scammed (at the end of the day you don't have the money), or there is a serious breach on PayPal's side. Maybe someone on here has come across this before. Wait for some more replies.:wall:0 -
seems as though when listing your item, where it asks for the paypal address to which you want to receive the payment, you inadvertantly entered an incorrect address?
thats the only way that it could be flagging up as paid within the listing and on your 'my ebay' page, despite nothing in your paypal account0 -
To me it sounds like someone has hacked your ebay account and changed your account preferences so when a buyer clicks - pay seller - they are asked to pay into the account that has been changed by the hacker. That is why it prompts you to enter a password for that paypal account when you click on the icon from ebay. Does that make sense?0

Hi, thanks for your replies - keep them coming though if anyone else has had something similar.
In answer to queries raised - ive phoned paypal twice throughout this problem, and to be honest they didnt seem that bothered that it looked like someone had hacked into my account, but did confirm that everything was ok with the paypal account.
As for accidentally inputting another email id in a field on the seller ebay thing, there is NO way I could possibly have done that, its like knowing someone elses email by telepathy - its just not going to happen by accident!
As for the buyer, since I replied saying that id spoken to paypal and that they advised me to open a non paying buyer report, ive heard nothing from them. I am now wondering if it was the buyer that was the problem and had somehow hacked in at the end of the listing? - they had a 0 feedback rating, which has now changed to 1, despite been registered as that user for about 4 months.
I will keep you all posted as if something similar happens to anyone else this would be a useful thread.
thanks again.0
