Dont assume though that you will automatically get a part time job. My daughter is in a shared house with six others near a city centre and she is the only one with a part time job. One girl goes back home at the weekends to work and another was working in a London department store but could not get transfered to the local one.
When we went in September every shop and bar was advertising for staff so it looked very easy to get work but it has not worked that way. Good idea to visit your uni city or town a few weeks before you start, armed with piles of CVs and loads of determination.
But base your budget on your loan and savings just in case you dont get work.lolly-i-pop wrote:I think if you want to live at home then fair enough, but don't live at home because of money. Uni is hard financially, but i have been at uni just over a year, away from home, and i have learnt more of lifes lessons than i had done the last 18 years i spent at home. living at home doesn't prepare you for the real world, thats why students get so excited to go home for xmas!
Pick a uni you want to go to, in a city where you think you will like and have fun.
And good preparation for when you go to uni - if you desperatly need a job as soon as you get to uni, then go to the city a month or so in advbance of when you plan to move, and try applying for jobs. Then you will have a job secured for when you ge to uni“Create all the happiness you are able to create; remove all the misery you are able to remove. Maybe the trick is to do a science degree then! I was in Uni every day, mostly from 9-5 but I did have the odd hour off in between. I had about 27 hours anyway. Never more than an hour for lunch so no time to go anywhere expensive and I went out less during the week as I had 9 or 10 o clock starts every day!
How I managed was before I went away I got a full time job paying ok money and I saved it all. I was working about 10 hours a week overtime as well. I was also working weekends in a nightclub. If you can get a bar job now (well as soon as you turn 18 if you're not already) it will really help because bars and pubs are always crying out for staff and if you have experience getting a job is pretty easy and can help you earn money and resist spending it.0
