Quite simple really you've carried out a credit search which in Experian's eyes has lowerd there useless score

Write to your bank and formally ask why the loan has been refused. Ask for the decision to be reviewed by a real person (rather than just being put through the computer process again).

Check for files with all 3 credit reference agencies - are there rows of "0"s for all of your credit lines? Are you close to your credit limits on cards or just paying the minimums each month? The latter situations will lower your "score" and will make you appear a bad risk.

If all entries on your files are correct and satisfactory but you bank will still not lend to you then that will be the end of the road... you cannot force an organisation to give you credit. You could try another lender as their criterial may be different.

I thought Clydesdale Finance was now Barclays Partner Finance?

As others have said, check the credit report NOT the score. The score means nothing.
