Can anyone tell me?
I have a BT phone line in my house, the line comes in through my front house wall and the box to connect my telephone is approximately two feet from the outside wall.
I have a fault on my broadband and I have been told that my
box is faulty and needs to be replaced.
My question is;- whose responsibility is it to maintain or replace this box?
I have BT line rental and BT broadband package.

BT's but if they find it's your extension cabling then you are, so make sure it really is the master socket that is faulty. Have you removed the faceplate and plugged the router directly into the socket behind the faceplate?:footie:

It's not unheard-of for the BT terminations at the back of the master socket to become corroded and/or loose. But you're not allowed (legally) to touch those connections.
Other than MJ's suggestion, have you tried a different filter? Or even a different DSL cable? (The one that connects your modem to the filter). As MJ notes, you need to rule out anything your side of the test socket being the cause of the issue. (Assuming you do have an NTE5 master socket).0 -
Curious how BT can diagnose a faulty NTE5 remotely? It could also be a line fault.
If it is though, it's BT's responsibility to fix it, as long as the damage isn't user-inflicted (i.e. if you've smashed it to bits with a hoover). No free lunch, and no free laptop0
