I never pay for bank holidays as the nursery isn't open. I think the fees are worked out to cover bank holidays etc and then you just don't pay.0

I dont have a problem paying for bank holidays, my holidays and days where kids are poorly so don't go but it would really annoy me if I had to pay for days where they have chosen to close. I only used to take my two once a week so imagine how annoyed I was that the nursery they attended closed twice for staff training in two months on the days that I used to take them and I still had to pay for these days. The nursery could not fit them in any other day and I still had to pay. I know staff need extra training from time to time but if a nursery choose to close then why should parents pay.0

How about looking for a childminder who may be able to accommodate you over the christmas preriod?0

My son's nursery shuts christmas week and we do not have to pay, also I do not pay when the nursery is shut on Bank Holidays.
I would be annoyed if I did have to pay because I still have to work that week and will be paying someone else to look after the children, why would I want to pay for childcare twice when only one is taking care of them.
I also think it is a lot of money you have to pay out, so is not fair when the nursery is shut for you to pay.0 -

i cant afford 2 lots of childcare fees, plus i dont think it would be fair on my son to send him to a stranger for a week.
thanks for trying to help though0 -

I pay £30 a day for nursery, I'm going to be using a private kindergarten and that charges only £17 per day and £1.50 for lunch. I would use that all the time as it is lovely but they are only open during term time and until 4pm so that is a problem. But it is a massive price difference between nursery and kindergarten0

thinking about it from another perspective (not as staff of a nursery...) it does seem unfair having to pay esp if you are at work, and as some1 whos now training to be a nurse and WILL be working xmas and bank holidays !! it does seem unfair having to pay, as as most of you have said, your paying for a sevice not in use
from the nursery nursing view, we use time out of our holiday entitlement to be off at xmas, so the quarrel certainly is with management, esp if they are charging high prices, i worked for council run nursery and was £22 a day0 -
Thanks for this thread- as dd has only been in nursery for 1mth and only goes 1 day a week, I am not yet in the swing of how nusery works. Went in on Friday to check and I have to pay too, she goes on a Monday so I pay for christmas day and NY day.0
