Energy Companies and the consumer credit act

Are energy companied bound by the terms of the consumer credit act?

    They might be, as they do give credit. I know BG often puts on adverts direct debit accounts have 0.0% apr, which they probably wouldn't have to do if they weren't. Why not email the oft? They could tell you.

    I would think not. Consumer Credit is about loan agreements in the sense of loans or hire purchase. Electricity and Gas are utilities. With Elec and Gas payment methods vary depending on what type of meter you have, and what payment method you chose if you are on a normal credit meter, but you are not under a lending agreement. If you are on a budget plan, at certain times of the year you owe the supplier money and at other times the the supplier owes you money. If you pay by variable DD or pay on receipt of bill then they send you an invoice and you pay it.
    Indecision is the key to flexibility :)
