Hard Drive Died

Hi
I’ve got a problem with a external portable Maxtor hard drive, for some unknown reason it started playing up. I would disconnect the H/ drive from the computer, reconnect and it would work fine till the next time. At one point I ended up at a place where the computer asked me if I wanted to (don’t hold me to the exact wording) something like, do I want to dismount or demount the H/drive with a few words of caution along side (I think) I didn’t take much notice of that, Whoops. I now cannot get the H/drive to work at all.
Anybody got any idea’s how to rectify the problem I’ve caused ? :o

How do you connect it? USB?

If so will it work in another machine?

Before you switch it off right click on the icon by task bar and safely remove it first. Sorry can't remember exact wording on the icon!

Then try it again on your machine.

Never simply pull the usb plug out, unless it's been safely removed or the power has been switched off to the external drive 1st.
