Reactivation of line and cheap deals

Hi everyone,
My hubby and I have lived in our rented property for 2 years. When we moved here, we (stupidly) took out a 3 mobile broadband 2 year contract. Finally this finishes end of July and we are looking into options for the next year (we've just signed our rental extension for the coming year).
The problem is, there are loads of "cheap" home phone and broadband deals around but because we don't have an active phone line (there is a BT and a NTL box in the house), we can't get these cheap deals as you have to have the line to start with.
Is there any way round this?
Is there any way of getting the line reconnected with a n other provider, then move a month later to a provider with a good deal?
Is this possible? Or am I being stupid thinking this?
Cost wise, our mobile broadband is £15 a month and because we don't have an active line, we're looking at cheapest £19 for fixed broadband and phone line.
We'd rather have fixed line broadband as the 3 signal is rubbish and their customer service isn't much better!
:rotfl:
Does anyone have any advise for us?
Sarah

Depends what is available where you live.
whilst Primus' Line Rental Saver at £6.79/month advertised on this site is not available for new connections, I'm pretty sure that their 12-month upfront deal is (£99 for 12 months line rental). May need to call 0800 036 0094.
Then, once line is connected Plus.Net's standalone broadband for £6.49/month which although has a £25 activation fee, this can be overcome with Quidco cashback
If this is available in your area, that's the equivalent of £14.74 per month .
I can't comment on customer service as I don't use either of the above.0 -
Why don't you check with your preferred supplier what they will charge to reconnect you? Most line rental contracts require a 12 month minimum term-no one is going to connect you for peanuts and then allow you to leave in a month-why would they?

I was in a similar position to you, but I just signed up for a deal with Sky (!) which I think is pretty good*. Over 12 months, I believe it will work out cheaper than TalkTalk for those needing new lines - you can't request a new line online with TalkTalk, so you'd lose out on any cashback deals etc.
I am not a Sky TV customer, but you still seem to be able to get phone and broadband with them. The unlimited broadband is £10pm if you don't have Sky TV, and the line rental is about £11.25 (including evening and weekend calls). However, they seem to be doing a deal at the moment where you get 6 months line rental at £6.25pm, which makes it quite a bit cheaper. Additionally, you can get £50 cashback via Quidco/TCB. *And* they're installing a new phone line for me, for free (I think!).
So over the 12 month contract, it works out at under £15pm, including line rental. Although maybe it's too good to be true - I will have to wait and see!
*In fact, I'm so surprised at the price that I'm a bit concerned I've totally misunderstood what I'm getting, and will get hit with some huge unexpected charges!0 -
