Black tights, black top, hairband with little antennas attached = an Ant?!
If you were feeling particularly creative you could papier mache a couple of balloons and tie them to her back for the body bits?!
Or red tights, red top and black spots = a Ladybird! Easy!Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

not had much practice at this- my little one's only seven months. I think you should go with a bug that suits the colour of an old top which you can customise.
How about a ladybird? she could wear red or black tights, red t-shirt and black skirt. if it's an old t-shirt you could draw black spots on the back. If you've got time you could buy a pair of head-bopper's (??) in Claire's Accessories, otherwise use an old alice band covered in red parcel ribbon and make antennae. To do this I would attach a pair of pipe cleaners and then either paint ping pong balls to stick on the ends or, if you want a quick fix, how about a pair of red Christmas parcel bows?
otherwise- grasshopper's if your top's green, a bee if yellow, ant if brown etc.
Oh dear, I've got all this to come...0 -
OOh, memories - when i was 7 we sang the 'ugly bug ball' in the parish panto. I had green shorts and tshirt with floppy green fabric 'wings' attached. I have no idea what I was meant to be. Still I did better than the girl in the worm costume. It was a tube of brown material that had a hole cut for her face. All she could do was wobble and shuffle and had to be lifted on and off the stage. It didn't even have armholes! Why not get some fairy wings and staple some iridescent net over them - that would make a nice dragonfly.0

Hi,
I had the exact same problem myself. Enclosed is a link to the ideas people gave me and a photo of my son dressed up. I just used a plain black teeshirt and bought some fabric paint to paint on the web. I am terrible at craft but found this ok to do. I just filled black tights with stuffing and sewed them to the teeshirt. He has since worn it on halloween to get his wear out of it.
Good luck
