*according to the urban legend which is almost certainly false
You have obviously not been to a Chester/Wrexham game, or at least the afters in town 'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -
Don't forget that public sector employees on average get paid far less than those doing the same job in the private sector.
A better pension is all that public sector employees have had to console themselves with and now you are arguing that it's not fair and needs changing?
Private sector employees often have amassed more wealth by the time they retire while most public sector workers are still paying off a mortgage in their 60s. It's going to be more and more like this.
Oh I know. I was just saying what successive governments did to erode our rights. I get mad when leftists/labour people blame Thatcher for everything because in many ways the Blair years were far worse.
Quite the opposite now, since the private sector has made huge cuts the public sector is now the higher paid by on average 2k, so better working conditions, better pensions and higher pay.
"he average public sector worker was paid £23,660 a year, compared with private sector workers who were paid £21,528 a year, in the three months to the end of November."

I believe firmly in the right to strike, but that this right is a tool that must be used carefully. The success of a strike depends greatly on the sympathy of the non-striking public for the issue under debate. London Underground are a prime example of distorting the right to strike and turning the public against unions, especially in the recent issue of the sacked worker found by an industrial tribunal to be "abusive" and not recommended for reinstation.
What Vince was trying to say is that striking over anything and everything gives those on the right extra ammunition to tighten up the laws (see today's Daily Wail). Battles need to be chosen carefully. Pensions is a tricky one, because most of us are looking at less in the future, wherever we work. They are an EYESORES!!!!0 -

As everyone knows, a lot of the lowest paid public sector jobs have been contracted out to the private sector, which skews the figures.
For example, in my Department all our cleaners and manual workers (the guys who shift desks etc) are all private sector. So are our receptionists.
Your binman is a private sector worker working for Veolia or whoever.Politics is not the art of the possible. It consists of choosing between the disastrous and the unpalatable. J. K. Galbraith0 -
