when to switch

Hi,

I wonder if someone has come across the situation i have and what you did? I have gas and electric with Npower which is on an online tariff, on the 20th June this will expire and change to their standard tariff. Obviously i want to spend as little time as possible on the standard tariff and plan to switch. However if i switch before the 20th i owe npower i think £30 per utility for switching early.

Has anyone had this before? when should i switch to a)get on a chaper deal asap b)avoid the potential £60 charge. I assume if the saving of switching is more than £60pa i should just switch now?

Thanks

Phil

Hi phil_sigley. Be aware that a lot of n'power's tariffs incude a BIG cashback element, but the criteria to get it relies on you having made 12 consecutive D/Debit payments, not the anniversary of your account (When you started your first D/D would have gone out a month after you joined, so you will have to have been with n'power 13 months before you will have paid 12 D/D's ).

You have the paperwork, so if you have not had your cash back for 12 D/D's, work out when it's due and the ups & downs of the Standard tariff prices you will pay until you do Switch, against the value of the cash back
  • Thanks for that, thinking back i dont think there was any cashback from npower associated with the tariff im on.

Think i'll do the comparisons and work out whether is worth me having to cough up the early change fee.
