washing machine drum

my washing machine has developed a problem. the drum seems to be splitting. the machine is about 8 years old and a whirlpool. Is it possible to get a new drum or is it not worth repair? On a tight budget at mo so if its repairable for a resonable cost I wold go for that rather than a new machine. Anyone know please.

if the drum is splitting in half, then a sensible cost repair is highly unklikely.
reckon the drum alone will cost over 100 quid. plus labour costs.
    Get some gorm.

thanks, its not actually splitting in half as such its that the little holes in the drum are sort of coming apart if that makes sense? Guess it does not make any differance as if its going to cost that much it wont make sense to repair. thanks anyway.

    No it doesn't.

A drum change is a long job as virtually every component in the wasjing machine that is above the drum has to be removed and reinstated. V costly.

I would be tempyed to run the machine until it fails completely. You never know you may get years out of it.

Speak to your local repairer! They often get machines with good drums which have failed circuit boards etc and have otherwise usable parts. I did exactly this with an old Hotpoint - he swapped my damaged drum with one from with a machine that was otherwise "beyond economical repair" (failed circuit board) and the customer had told him to scrap it. He basically made me one good machine from two damaged ones.

If the holes are seperating its worth your while washing your clothes in plain pillow cases as the cracks could / can damage delicate fabrics / clothes.

Father in law used to be able to swap drums in an hour n half on servis machines

Are you sure it is a metal fatigue thing and not some cosmetic deposit on the drum material, such as limescale?

Have you run a 'clean' cycle?
